JOKESTICK

You're in a Jokestick game

Someone who knows you, usually a friend or someone in your family, ordered a comedy video game starring you and your group, as a surprise. They told us the stories. This page says what we did with them, and how to have the game taken down if you'd rather.

Last updated 24 October 2026. Our company registration is in progress; its name, number and address will appear here the day it completes.

Who we are

Jokestick, at jokestick.com, run by its two founders. We're responsible for your information. Write to privacy@jokestick.com.

Where your information came from

From the person who ordered the game, in a conversation with Joy, our AI interviewer. If they used a photo to help draw you, it was read once into a few words like "short grey hair, square glasses" and deleted straight away. It was never stored. Your skin tone was never read from a photo; the buyer chose it.

What we hold about you

Your name or the nickname the group uses; who you are to the group; how the buyer described you; the stories, sayings and in-jokes about you; and anything the buyer said was off limits. Nothing more. We never ask for surnames, addresses, phone numbers or photos to keep, and we ask buyers not to send them.

Why, and why we didn't tell you first

To make the game the buyer gave you. Our legal basis is legitimate interests: the buyer's interest in giving a personal present, and ours in making it, weighed against yours. You can read our assessment on request. The surprise is the present, and we don't have your contact details, so we tell you now, in the game itself, and keep this page public so anyone can read it at any time.

Our rules for buyers

Only friends and family who'll laugh. No exes. No colleagues being picked on. Nobody under 18 as the butt of a joke. Nothing about health, sex, crime, money troubles or anything told in confidence. A real person at Jokestick plays every game and reads every line before it's delivered. If something slipped through, we're sorry, and we'll take it out.

What we never do

We never use your stories for adverts, never sell them, and never use them to train an AI model. We don't put real people in our marketing without their permission.

How long we keep it

The stories are deleted 30 days after the game is delivered. You can ask us to delete what's about you at any time, whatever the buyer chose. If you ask for a takedown, we keep a short record that we did it. The game installs on phones and works offline, so copies already on people's phones are outside our reach; taking it down stops the link working, removes our copy and deletes the stories we hold.

Who else handles it

Anthropic runs Joy and helps write the game; Cloudflare hosts the site, the games and the stories; Resend sends our emails. They're in the United States, under contracts and the safeguards UK data protection law requires.

Your rights

You can have the game taken down, or one line removed, no questions asked, and we don't need to tell the buyer who asked. You can also ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to our using it, or ask us to restrict it. We reply to a takedown within two days and to anything else within a month.
